Filmmaker Gaylene Preston is to join the jury to award the prestigious Schlesinger Prize for Best First Documentary Feature selected for competition in the Palm Springs International Film Festival this week.
Her television series HOPE and WIRE, starring Bernard Hill and Rachel House will have US Premiere screenings on January 7 and 11 in this prestigious film festival dedicated to showcasing the work of exceptional, new and emerging talents as well as celebrating the work of established directors. Preston will attend both screenings.
Preston says, “I was invited to Palm Springs with RUBY and RATA way back in 1990, and was unable to go, so being on the jury this year is a great opportunity to finally front up – twenty-five years later.”
The Schlesinger prizewinner will be announced at a Gala dinner on January 10.
This year the Palm Springs International Film Festival honours, among others, the filmmaker Richard Linklater and actors Julianne Moore, and David Oyelowo. Reese Witherspoon receives the Chairman’s Award for WILD, which opens in New Zealand cinemas on January 29.
